Huntington’s Disease
Huntington’s Disease is a genetic neurodegenerative disease for which there is no cure. With this said there are many natural compounds such as acetylated carnitine that Dr. David Steenblock has found confers improvements in neurologic function in Huntington’s disease patients at the right dose and frequency of use. This is lent support by findings in studies involving animal models – click to access the abstract of one such study.
But perhaps more encouraging is what Dr. Steenblock has seen in HD patients who received a series of treatments in which he harvested their own stem cell-rich bone marrow and gave it back to them. He discusses how one particular patient with Huntington’s disease responded following a series of whole bone marrow transplants in the November 2008 issue of the Townsend Letter for Physicians and Patients.
“Can Bone Marrow Stem Cells Help Patients with Huntington’s Disease?” by David A. Steenblock, MS, DO
In this case study of a 39-year-old male with Huntington’s disease, the author reviews a therapeutic approach that culminated in a highly successful autologous whole bone marrow therapy and raises the possibility that such a treatment, given more frequently, might be even more efficacious.
