osteoporosisOsteoporosis

Osteoporosis refers to a pathologic bone loss that currently affects about 1 out of 5 American women over the age of 50.  It occurs when the body fails to form enough new bone or when too much old bone is broken down (reabsorbed), or both. Petite women as well as those who smoke, drink too much and take in too little calcium are at a greater-than-normal risk of developing this condition.

Traditional medical treatments include bisphosphonates, hormone replacement and use of calcitonin, all of which basically slow bone loss and bolster bone building activities. These work but sometimes need a “helping hand.” Dr. Steenblock tackles this by using dietary, botanic, nutritional and other therapies that retard bone loss and stimulate the genesis of new bone. In addition he has developed techniques for purging old, devitalized stem cells from bone marrow, a process that stimulates the marrow to make new, robust stem cells and with this new bone.  You can read more about this “purge & renew” process by clicking this link: http://stemcell.md/newsletters/nov2010.pdf
